Additional investment to improve areas across South Lanarkshire

Improvements to back courts, fences, landscaping works and upgrades to lock ups are to take place across South Lanarkshire.
A one-off investment of £500,000 was allocated to the Estate Improvement Budget with the purpose of further improving areas surrounding the council’s housing estate.
The investment is part of an almost £40 million funding boost after political groups came together to agree the Budget for People and Place in South Lanarkshire for 2026-27.
In Rutherglen, the back courts at 4, 6, 8 and 10 Barnflat Street will be upgraded, including the drying areas, and a safe space for bin stores will be created. The fence at the front of 16-28 Greenhill Road will also be repaired and repainted.
In Clydesdale, environmental works will take place at the back courts of 1 – 19A and 21-27A Monks Way, Lesmahagow, including the creation of bin cages and improving the drying area. Landscaping works will also take place around the grounds of Blackwood Court Sheltered Housing in Douglas (pictured above).
In East Kilbride, a section of the lock ups at Banff, Westwood, will be demolished with the remaining ones fully refurbished and allocated according to the waiting list.
In Hamilton, the open plan area and back courts at two blocks within the Old Town will be improved, with works including fixing uneven slabs and crumbling brickwork, broken and damaged fencing, with landscaping works also taking place.
Head of Housing Services, Sharon Egan, said: “This welcome additional funding allows us to add to our annual Estate Improvement Budget which is part of the wider Housing Investment Programme.
“We will be engaging with tenant representatives across each of the four housing divisions and will update each of the four Area Committees as work progresses.
“Tenant representatives will continue to be involved in the projects, having opportunity to influence outcomes as part of their delivery.”
